We were really waiting for the call that would allow us to bring Ruudi home.

It came in the evening, we quickly went to the clinic to bring our little patient for home treatment.

The doctor was very thorough and explained all the points of the treatment plan to us in the most thorough way. The days after the operation are very critical, or in short, we got Ruudi home, but there was a critical time ahead and no one could give a guarantee that the operation was successful and there would be no setbacks.

Recovery was quite difficult. At first, Ruudi's body was so painful that every movement was accompanied by a scream. When we went outside, I picked him up, but that was also painful... anyone who has met Ruudi knows that he doesn't hold back with words :) So the first few days there was a lot of screaming about every movement and discomfort.

As the day went on, the more skilled we were and the faster we were able to give Ruudi his medication.

My fingers were constantly sore, because he doesn't voluntarily swallow pills, but it was a small thing, the main thing is that he's getting better!

The first 5 days went by pretty quickly and Ruudi's feeling started to improve. It was time to go for his first check-up. We were really looking forward to it, because we only had good news for the doctor, but a few hours before Ruudi started vomiting, which was a complete alarm bell.

But while dogs usually start to have stomach contractions before vomiting, this time he didn't. Since it seemed strange to me, I quickly made a video for the doctor and we went to the clinic. At the clinic it became clear that Ruudi had kennel cough, and the cough makes him vomit. Ruudi has had kennel cough before, but it has never been so strong so quickly, it was quite scary. Especially since after the operation his body is already weak and every additional thing is just a burden. We also quickly started kennel cough treatment.

We got the cough under control in a couple of days and from there everything went smoothly. We continued the treatment and Ruudi continued to improve. His cheerfulness and energy grew by the hour. Today, the doctor has also removed Ruudi's stitches, it was such a good team effort that Ruudi didn't even scream :D Of course, the body will still heal for a while, but the greater danger is over and we can gradually return to normal life.

There were at least 5 doctors, if not more, along this entire journey, but the most important one for us was Dr. Mareli Ots, who also performed the surgery and further check-ups. Her decisiveness and ability to explain why something was necessary instilled trust. We never once felt that something could have been tried or done better. We are grateful that Ruudi had such good doctors and all the other staff, whom we did not meet, but who certainly contributed. The doctor said that Ruudi isn't the worst client at all, but when we hear the scream from behind the door, we dare to read it as a polite response :D
