Very often, people are left with the impression that in puppy school the dog is simply taught commands (sit-lie down) and it does not seem tempting for them to pay the puppy school fee for this. The idea is completely understandable, because often the coaches do not write down the course information, and the new owner may have such an impression. Now let's break this myth together, and I very much hope that whoever previously doubted the need for a puppy school will also find motivation fom here.
Puppy school is much more than a couple of commands that indeed anyone can teach their dog on their own. But a couple of clearly learned commands do not guarantee a pleasant relationship between a dog and a person. It is easy to live with a dog if you understand each other, i.e. a person knows how to reward the dog correctly, and the dog learns the behavior that we expect from him thanks to this. Through positive training, it is a fun journey for both the dog and the owner.
Reneeda replies:
"One of the most common questions among those who come to puppy school is how to prohibit a puppy from doing various activities. This question is followed by claims that the puppy will immediately cease its activities after being banned, but in most cases will continue with it after a few moments or undertake another equivalent "mischief".
After my question, however, what do they expect from a dog after being banned, there will be much more reasonable answers, such as that instead of jumping, one could put one's paws down, or when one sees a dog on the street, one could leave dragging in his direction. A puppy learns much faster and in a good mood if during unwanted behavior a person's clear expectations are shown. How else is he supposed to know that, apart from hearing "no" while jumping, he shouldn't have to bark, whine, bite, strip from his clothes, pee on top, or take any other activity he likes as a substitute?
In puppy school, participants get much more than just the knowledge of leaving a dog to sit down and giving a paw. It is important to teach the dog to know and safely use his body, and how to share the world with people and other animals. At school, you can get answers to all the questions, as well as those that you could not even ask - how are all parties happy when walking on the street, visiting the dog, visiting the clinic, staying at home on a daily basis.
People who already have several puppies coming home will also come back to puppy school because they know how important it is to teach their dog everything they need in a controlled environment, under the guidance of a trainer who notices more than the person dealing with the puppy when they look from the sidelines."
We hope that we helped you better understand why puppy school is an important investment in the cohabitation of you and your pet. Keep an eye on our next post, where we will talk about how to choose the right one for you from among several puppy schools.
