Experience story: to fly with a dog

In our society, the dog is a member of the family and we are increasingly involving them in various activities. So, when the idea came up to go on a small vacation, we explored our options for taking Ruudi with us (Ruudi is a miniature dachshund, so he's the perfect size for travelling in planes cabin). We were sure that for Ruudi, the trip would be a nice adventure, he is used to different situations, we participate in exhibitions and trainings.

Since this was our first time flying with a dog, we chose a direct flight. AirBaltic became the airline this time, their website has instructions on what size dog can be taken to the plane and what requirements must be met. I wanted to ask a few more things directly from the airline, so I also contacted them by phone. Over the phone, I received confirmation that there was a place for the flight I had chosen, for Ruudi. Next, AirBaltic sent a bill for the dog and we were ready for the trip.

When traveling with a dog, you need to go to the airport a little earlier. We are used to check-in online, but the dog also needs to be physically checked in and weighed. At the airport, Ruudi's vet.pass was checked, he was weighed and checked to make sure the dog was still comfortable in his travel bag. Our trip took place early in the morning, so there were no queues and we quickly got everything done. Next we were already moving on to the security check, which also passed smoothly. For Ruudi, it was all a great thrill, and regardless of the early hours of day, he had a cheerful mind and a wagging tail.

While waiting for the flight, Ruudi and I walked around the airport and played a bit so he would be tired for the flight. All the staff and fellow passengers treated the dog very well, as they passed, smiled and came to communicate. On the plane, Ruudi was in his bag, and after takeoff, he felt comfortable enough to take a nap.

Our trip passed well, all the people we met were positive about the dog. Ruud also played a part in this, he behaved in an exemplary manner and was one of the most polite representatives of dogs. We will definitely fly some more and we recommend that you take your dog on a trip with you.
